Narrative Historical Poetry

The two excerpts above are examples of a form of poetry called "narrative poetry". Narrative poetry tells a story, often in sequential order, and can highlight any theme. However, for this activity our theme will be history. We will concentrate our narrative writing on the people and events that have shaped Philadelphia and Pennsylvania history.

After reviewing "Casey at the Bat" and other forms of narrative poetry, use the space below to write four verses about a person or event that you would like to highlight in narrative form. Remember all the lessons we had on prose and the various rhyme forms that you can use before beginning your writing. Try using a unique rhyme scheme like A,B,C,A.
